Action for Children
“Nigel Jardine, a motivation expert from Horsforth, Leeds, has successfully broken two world records for walking on broken glass in aid of Action for Children.
Nigel's records took place at one of his local restaurants, where, in front of astonished diners, he set out to beat the record for distance walking on a path of glass for an hour. The previously held record was 960 metres. Nigel smashed the mark, walking a total of 1060 metres around a circular path of broken glass.
However, he didn't stop there. Instead he went on to set another record, one that had never been attempted before. He walked continuously on shards of glass for 29 hours, covering a total distance of 30km.
When interviewed about why he was doing the walk by the media, Nigel explained he felt a strong connection with Action for Children's work because he was abused as a child mentally and physically, both at home and at school. He said the glass walk reflected a child's response to abuse: treading carefully, avoiding pain, not wanting to get hurt.
