Aug 1st 2009 - The start of something BIG!!

Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m Nigel Jardine and it’s through this diary over the next seven weeks that I want to share my journey in Britain’s Next Top Coach final. It was all your votes and support that got me through to the last four. So here I am, vulnerable, nervous, excited, ready!

So what am I going to do? Well, I’ll be talking around strategies that I’m going to put into operation, things I’m going to do to push myself way, way out of box and I’ll be telling you so you’re like my third force, like my support network. You can ask me questions, you can push me… “Why are you doing this Nigel?”, “Why are you doing such a bizarre thing?” “What’s the purpose of this, what’s this got to do with being Britain’s Top Coach?” Well I’d love that support it gets me to look at myself, where I’m going, what I’m doing, and I know that whatever you say, it’s just feedback.

At each stage of this competition I’m being pushed, and rightfully so! It’s exactly the same as I would do with my clients. So being pushed is one thing, but then to trust that I can do what I’m being pushed on, is another. Also what is this competition about? I mean, is it just about the title? The ‘sash’ so to speak, the acceptance speech…….. I don’t think so! For me what it’s about is how I connect with myself and with others to a whole new level , so that I’ve definitely journeyed, I’ve definitely grown. I had to look at really what made me be a coach, what was it all about and what was I escaping from? I think some of it obviously, well definitely for me was my background and how I was thought of and what I was told I was and really proving to myself that I was bigger than that.

So it was with this thought in mind that I had a trip recently from London to Leeds and I was setting off, I think about midnight or some bizarre time after a show I’d done,  I was travelling up and it was going to take me about three and a half hours. So I thought, right… to keep me awake during this journey I really do need to focus on the final, what is this about?  Is this just about me winning the title? What else is missing for me? And I decided it was about giving some depth to what I was doing, not only for me,  but also for others, and with my background being the way it was, I suddenly thought “That’s it! Children….. charity, this could really support a children’s charity” it could be ongoing work that I do, and then I would feel that I would be giving real depth to the whole thing.

So the journey has started. I am now in negotiation with Action for Children and really excited about the next step. Keep in touch to find out more, give me your feedback and support.

Aug 8th - Why am I doing this?

Ok so there are only 8 days to go to my World record attempts - yes there are 2 records on the go. Well one exist and I hope to break it, the other will be a brand new one, so I’m very excited! I’m doing lots to get myself physically and mentally in shape. I have been detoxing and I go running or cycling each day and do a weights work out. I know that to achieve this goal I need to be prepared, so it’s not just about walking on the glass, it’s the energy that goes with this event. The walk is going to be cyclical and serves as a metaphor for my childhood experiences. When I was small I used to pace round and round my bedroom as a way to alleviate some of my upset of days at school and home, which always included some element of abuse. I suppose I was metaphorically walking on egg-shells on a daily basis to avoid any harm. So I know this walk is likely to have an emotional effect on me, so I have to be strong and ready.

The pathway for the glasswalk is now under construction and is looking great! I have a fantastic team of people helping to arrange the venue the publicity and the support. In fact I’m on Radio Leeds on Tuedsay 11th Aug at about 10.40am - so listen out for that. Of course with the wonders of the internet I think it’ll be on the BBC iPlayer after the date.

Remember to sposnsor me too www.justgiving.com/nigeljardine to make this a really worthwhile event.

Thanks!
